Purposes for which Goldsmiths may use information about students
Note: Goldsmiths, University of London is the brand name of Goldsmiths' College, a corporation established by Royal Charter, which is registered with the Information Commissioner as a Data Controller for personal data.
Personal data held by the College relating to you may be stored in paper and/or electronic form in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act (1998), and will or may be used for purposes associated with
- The administration of student residential services, including measures to protect your health and safety
- Procedures relating to complaints and appeals, and to student discipline
- Statistical processing of aggregated student data by Goldsmiths, or by institutions with which it is in collaboration
- Registration for the electoral register
- Equal Opportunities monitoring
- General routine administrative functions
Any organisation (data processor) acting under contract to the College to process personal data which it holds (or acting similarly on behalf of any of the institutions named above).
Should you, either during the admissions procedure or at any point in your studies, give or have given information about a disability which you believe yourself to have, this information will - unless you object explicitly - be passed to any member of the College who requires it in order to ensure appropriate arrangements for teaching, examination or domestic facilities (including residential facilities should you wish to live in Goldsmiths accommodation). We also use this information for Equal Opportunities
Subsequent to your vacating halls, graduating or withdrawing from Goldsmiths, the data held by the College that relates to you will be held for an indefinite period, and confirmation of any details held, will be released to you on application and payment of the appropriate fee.
