(Please note that 289a Batavia Mews has the postcode SE14 6AS and is accessed on New Cross Road)
Batavia Mews is located about 5 minutes' walk from the Goldsmiths campus and houses 110 students in 12 self-contained flats. The hall is above a parade of shops on New Cross Road and accessed via Goodwood Road.
The hall is located in a lively area of New Cross, adjacent to main roads and with access to good transport links. Find out more about New Cross and the local area.
Both undergraduates and postgraduate students stay at Batavia Mews. Due to different term dates, UG and PG students tend to be housed separately and usually in a mixed-sex flat.
Batavia Mews is made up of 12 self-contained flats. The flats vary in size and accommodate between 7-20 people. All the rooms in the hall are for single occupancy.
Most single rooms (ie not en-suite) are accommodated with a sink, and students will have access to shared kitchens and bathrooms that are cleaned daily (except for weekends and college closure days). You'll have access to the laundrette on the Loring Hall site
Nb: not all study bedrooms are equipped with an individual washbasin. The rooms are allocated randomly and rent is at a slightly lower rate if you don't have a washbasin.
There's no car parking at Batavia Mews. There is a bicycle rack at the rear of the building, and bikes are left there at the owner’s risk. You're encouraged to have insurance cover and an adequate lock. Bikes can't be kept in bedrooms or any other area inside Batavia Mews.
Rubbish is collected regularly throughout the week (except bank holidays and college closure days) from the kitchen areas. Recycling bags are provided in your kitchens too. Royal Mail deliver post to the hall.
Students can connect to the Internet using the campus wifi.
We always have staff covering our halls, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your Hall Office is at Loring Management Centre which is staffed during the day. Batavia Mews has three Resident Assistants who live in Flat 14. Resident Assistants will leave a copy of the duty rota on the noticeboard in each kitchen. There's a security officer on duty at night in the office at the rear of Batavia Mews. Batavia Mews is patrolled regularly at night by Security Staff.
