Two PhD Studentships:Department of Anthropology, Goldsmiths, University of London
and the Horniman Museum
We invite applications for two full-time, three-year doctoral research positions offering the opportunity to work on an exciting new AHRC collaborative research project held between the Department of Anthropology at Goldsmiths and the Horniman Museum.
Project title is Memory, Identity and Material Culture: an Exploration of Perspectives on the Past Through a Museum Collection of Romanian Artefacts. The project offers a rare opportunity to work on a little known collection at the Horniman Museum, and to link the life histories of objects and images to the lives of their producers in Romania.
You should have a BA or MA in Anthropology, Visual and Material Culture, Museum Studies or a closely related field. Knowledge of Romania and Romanian language and/or curatorial experience is not necessary but would be an advantage.
Goldsmiths’ Department of Anthropology was highly rated in the December 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, and the Horniman Museum has an outstanding reputation at a local, national and international level.
You will receive PhD training in social anthropology and museum curatorship at both institutions. You will be jointly supervised by Dr Frances Pine, Dr Emma Tarlo and Dr Fiona Kerlogue.
For more information about the project, please contact Sam Kelly, s.m.kelly@gold.ac.uk
Closing date for receipt of applications is 1 June 2010.
Interviews will be held on 15 June 2010.
The project will start on 1 October 2010.
