Silvia de Zordo received a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris in September 2008. Her research interests encompass family planning, contraception and abortion in Latin America and Europe, as well as gender and race studies, among other areas. Her doctoral dissertation is on state reproductive policies and explores their impact on the lives of working class, black women in Bahia (Brazil), particularly on their reproductive and contraceptive behaviour. Her postdoctoral research examines health professionals, moral and religious convictions and their perceptions of legal and illegal abortion in Brazil. Her current study, funded by a Marie Curie Fellowship, explores health professionals, experiences and attitudes towards abortion, its stigmatization and conscientious objection in Europe, Italy and UK.
