Current research

I am interested in the subtle and complex interrelationships between gambling and kinship and their multiple resonances. Existing studies of gamblers and their loved ones considers gambling as a problem and abstracts subjects from their local and everyday contexts. My project opens up the field of gambling research through an innovative anthropological lens of kinship/relatedness, money, consumption, exchange, and luck/chance/fate/risk. My fieldwork is based in three London casinos and my understanding of gambling extends beyond the obvious to include risk taking and exchanges of all kinds.
