Nick Crowe

Nick Crowe makes work in collaboration with Ian Rawlinson and they are primarily concerned with the languages of power, with its grammar and with its rhetoric. Their projects address questions around faith, politics, national identity and the environment and our video and sculptural works attempt to create an encounter with the viewer that focuses on the complexity of objects and actions in relation to their social contexts.

Teaching

Nick has been a lecturer for Goldsmiths' Department of Art since 2008. He has previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Huddersfield's School of Art, Design and Architecture (2003-2004), Manchester Metropolitan University (1996-1997, 1993-1995), De Montfort University (1995-1996), and Cheltenham College of Higher Education (1992-1994). He was an AHRC Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University from 2004-2008.

Between 1997 and 2009, he was a guest and visiting lecturer at the Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University, Slade School of Fine Art, Norwich School of Art and Manchester Metropolitan University, among others.

Professional projects

Nick co-founded the Manchester Pavillion at the Venice Biennale, which he oversaw for six years (2001-2007). He served as a council member for the Tate Liverpool (2004-2010) and on the editorial board for The Internationaler (2004-2007).

He also served as the project manager for the ARENA project, a part of Irwell Valley Sculpture Trail (1999-2002), and as the director for the Annual Programme in Manchester (1995-2000).

He has lectured at Tate Britain, ICA, the Royal Institution, and the Institution of Electrical Engineers in London, and internationally at Sculpture Park in Berlin, Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, and the Center for New Technology in New York. In collaboration with Ian Rawlinson, his work has been shown around the world, including at the Platforma Revolver in Lisbon, Beyogula in Istanubl, Kotti-Shop in Berlin, and Gallery Kit in St. Louis.
