My work engages with the limits of photographic representation and its potentialities. For me, this can mean creating impermanent installations either in the studio or in a given place (in the current work, the Mediterranean landscape). These itineraries record my physical movement and intervention into the place or onto objects. It is a memory work, which involves the hands and the body, as well as the physical play between movement and stillness. Most of the times, this work is set-up deliberately for the camera: after the making of the image, the impermanent record disappears.

My thesis has been a constant exploration on the theme of memory, photography and landscape. In my thesis, I try to bring together aspects of the physical element of re-creating memories. I have structured my thesis as a metaphorical walk into landscape; elements of personal memories are combined with the physical act of traversing the native landscape of Greece. This walk is also placed into a wider theoretical framework of the creative force at work: theories from philosophy, such as Agamben’s notion of Pasearse, Derrida’s third testimony or witness, Michel Serres fragmented yet unique Method, to name the most dominant, have all helped to create the background. Finally, my thesis aims to use a methodology of creative writing, situated within a contemporary arts discussion, emphasizing photography as a contemporary art practice.
