The theme for the 2008 Big Draw at Goldsmiths was 3Ddraw.
More than 600 people flocked to Goldsmiths fifth annual Big Draw event to express their creativity in a variety of forms, on Saturday October 25, 2008. The 2008 event was so sucessful that it won a runner up prize in the Drawing Inspiration Awards. This meant a cheque for £150 plus vouchers from Derwent Pencils - which will all go towards the 2009 Big Draw.
The 2008 event was held as part of the national Big Draw campaign and families from across London took part in a host of guided activities led by postgraduate trainee teachers from Goldsmiths’ Educational Studies Department.
Visitors of all ages left feedback using sticky notes on a giant notice board, comments included:
“Fantastic again. This is our 4th year coming to the Big Draw and it just seems to get better every time. Thanks to all the students for their hard work,” A parent and visitor
“Thanks a load – what an amazing craft hall! I wish I could have made EVERYTHING!” Katie, aged 6
“I think this was a really good idea because you are teaching people to draw as well as how to have fun.” Matilda Strickland
“It was brill. The whole family enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the animation.” Ollie Rhodes
“Today it was the best Big Draw ever! I found it not just fun but really fun. It could keep me in for a whole century if I was allowed to!” Dan, aged 7
As well as creations in line with this year’s theme, which was 3-Dimensional drawing and mark-making, the children also got to work with some of the latest technology to create their own animations.
This year Goldsmiths' Big Draw was partly sponsored by Aspire Aimhigher, the South East London partnership working to give young people in the area more opportunities to access further and higher education. The event was also supported by the Centre for Arts and Learning, a research centre at Goldsmiths dedicated to the practical and theoretical exploration of learning practices across the arts within diverse social and cultural contexts.
