This course provides an introduction to application development for the iPhone using the popular artists coding toolkit, openFrameworks. The course will cover a basic introduction to programming in openFrameworks, including image and sound manipulation, animation and interactivity. It will also introduce you to specific features of the iPhone including accelerometer, compass, geolocation and multitouch interaction. By the end of the course, you will have gained the skills and experience to create basic applications such as simple games and audio/visual interactive software.
AimsThis course aims to offer students at Master's level the opportunity to develop skills in applied audiovisual computing through a series of workshops and project sessions. The topics delivered in this course cover creative software development in C/C++, audio and graphics programming for embedded systems (iPhone and iPad).

Course delivery
This course runs on Thursday evening's over a 6-week period. During this time, you will explore a specific area of interest with a range of like-minded media professionals and input from academics and industry guest lecturers. You will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge further with supported online study during which you will take part in a variety of online exercises, forums and projects. These activities can easily fit around your current professional work.
You will have the option of undertaking an assignment/project and on its successful completion will gain 15 Master’s level credits. If you go on to participate in and pass more of our courses you can accrue credits towards a Postgraduate Certificate, a Postgraduate Diploma or a Master’s.

The tutor, Parag Mital is a practicing programmer and is studying towards his PhD in Arts and Computational Technologies from Goldsmiths' Department of Computing. When, where and how much?

You will have access to a Virtual Learning Environment and social networking software enabling team working and peer support. The course is delivered in the Goldsmiths Computing iMac development lab, although access to your own Macintosh computer will be an advantage. How to get to Goldsmiths.
The fees for this course are £700, with an Early Bird reduced price of £600 if you book in advance.
Who should take this course?
The course is designed to be easier for creatives with only limited experience of programming. It is specifically targeted at those with existing skills in digital image and/or sound making who wish to begin making interactive applications on the iPhone.
Some prior experience of simple programming in a language such as HTML/Javascript or or processing is also recommended.
Entry requirements
The course is open to media professionals with an undergraduate degree and the required work experience in a relevant industry (normally a minimum of two years); and to non-graduates with significant and relevant work experience (normally 5 years) who can demonstrate an ability to both complete and benefit from the course.
