What is Skillset?
Skillset is the industry body which supports skills and training for people and businesses to ensure the UK creative industries maintain their world class position.
How does Skillset deliver skills and training?
Skillset works with partner institutions known as Skillset Media Academies, to deliver a range of courses specifically designed for professionals in the creative industries, from freelancers to employees.
Why Goldsmiths, University of London?
As a Skillset Media Academy, Goldsmiths offers:
Who is eligible?
Anyone who has an undergraduate degree with two years’ relevant industry experience, or five years’ industry experience without a degree.
Are the courses recognised by the industry?
Yes. Each course has been developed by working closely with expert industry partners, and industry professionals play a key role in delivering the courses.
My people have busy working lives. How flexible are the courses?
Very flexible. The courses are designed to fit into the schedule and requirements of your business and your people, with weekend and evening options. You can choose as many or as few courses as you like, paying for each course individually without any obligation to take further modules.
If you do decide to offer your people the opportunity to work towards a higher qualification such as an MA, this can be spread over 5 years.
Will I have to accommodate fixed exam times?
No. All the courses are 100% coursework assessment.
My staff are expected to travel many different places in London and the UK. How does this fit in with studying at Goldsmiths?
There are many Skillset Media Academies across the UK, and you are not restricted to just one. Every institution undergoes a rigorous selection process to ensure every course is delivered to the high standards and quality you expect.
I’m not sure if I want to send my staff on one or two courses, or offer them the opportunity to work towards a higher qualification. When do I need to make a decision?
Whenever you like. You don’t have to commit to offering a higher qualification route at any stage. Many businesses start out intending to offer one or two courses, but decide to offer the higher qualification route at a later stage to all, or select, employees. Some employees decide to continue on to a higher qualification at their own time and expense.
If you do decide to offer your staff the opportunity to work towards a higher qualification such as an MA, one-third of their credits should be obtained at a single institution, so they can award the qualification. Please note there are also some restrictions on the combination of courses that can be taken to achieve some qualifications, so contact us on the number or email below for further information.
I would like to offer a course to all my staff. Do I get a discount?
If you plan to send a significant amount of your people on to our courses, we are happy to discuss course costs.
I’m not in a position to send anyone on a course yet, but I’m interested in bespoke training sessions delivered in-house. Is this something Goldsmiths does?
We’re happy to discuss the option of in-house training, tailored to your requirements.
I’ve looked at your course programme and there’s something I’d like to offer my people, but it’s not there.
We’re constantly developing new courses, and are happy to discuss your business requirements in relation to this.
