Event overview
Beyond Identity is concerned with the limits of identity, where people belong to and maintaining social, cultural or political relationship. It represents their shifting how identity position as the other. In other words, the “other” is needed against which to define one-self as well as to create desire. The works of exhibition depict their or our desire and reality. It is performed of natural parts of their identity in an effort to understand the material consequence of differences as significant individuality. We explore the theme from Landscape and North Korean Portraits perspectively.
Here at this MRes show Yao Wu and Doh Lee, have produced works which join each other. In Doh Lee’s case, to produce sensitive aesthetic evocations of a lost Korea, (and estranged Korean qualities). Yao Wu has produced pictures which confront vision with her experience, and hint at something hidden from our gaze, on the edge of the unimaginable.
“A glance leaves an imprint on anything it’s dwelt on” (Iara Boubnova, art critic and curator).
