Event overview
Panel discussion with Rod Fisher, George Musgrave and Gerald Lidstone from ICCE.
The arts are increasingly employed in healthcare environments as a means to help people suffering from various forms of ill-health. Consequently, the area of arts and health has expanded considerably in the UK as activities surrounding the field have become more diverse, and the 'audience' reach has broadened to also focus on the well-being of the population as a whole. In this panel discussion, we will ask some of the big questions relating to arts and health. How can the arts be used to improve our physical, mental and cultural well-being? Are different types of arts suited better to healing than others? And what impact do the arts have on our mental health - can it make us sick rather than feel better?
In this panel discussion, open to all, three lecturers from ICCE will provide different perspectives on arts and health.
Rod Fisher will trace the history and scope of arts and health from the late 1970s and its emergence as a public policy issue in the UK.
George Musgrave will be discussing the findings from his research entitled 'Can Music Make You Sick?', the largest ever study of its kind into the relationship between working in the music industry and mental health conditions.
Gerald Lidstone will ask ‘Are Dancers Healthy’ and discuss 6 years of research into Dance and Health, using the example of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing used for evaluating dance projects at Sadler's Wells.
There will be wine and nibbles after the panel discussion.
Everyone welcome!
