Open seminar discussing the interconnection of research and teaching at Goldsmiths. (Rescheduled from earlier postponement.)
The recent RAE results support Goldsmith’s claims to research excellence.
But how does academic research influence learning and teaching, and vice versa?
What is research and where and how can we locate its activity in the overlapping remits of academics?
This year, three fellows have been appointed to investigate the connections between research and teaching at Goldsmiths. Questions they are asking include:
- How do staff conceptualise the relationship between research and teaching? Is it a matter of curriculum content, or does it extend to the delivery of teaching, or the demands our programmes make on participating students?
- How do students see staff research, or their own research, affecting their learning experiences? When is a class a research activity with and for the student?
All are welcome for informal presentations by the three fellows, and a subsequent discussion. The fellows will also be describing the next stage of their work, and how interested staff can participate.
Refreshments provided.
Fellows:
Anna Furse (Drama), Micheal Young (Music), Thomas Kirsch (Anthropology)
