Organised in conjunction with the Staff Counselling Service, this workshop will provide the antidote to the stresses and strains of working life which can spill over into our home lives (and vice versa).

The workshop will be led by Mike Bryant, recently appointed Staff Counsellor at Goldsmiths. Mike is a qualified counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (working to its ethical framework). Mike was born in the US and came to the UK in 1984. As well as being a qualified mental health professional, Mike has qualifications and a background in social work.

Outline
This workshop is an introduction for all staff on personal management of stress in the workplace. Participants will be able to share experiences in a supportive, confidential and constructive environment. You will come away with practical steps that can be put into action right away. Handouts will be provided but bring a pen and paper if you’d like to take notes. There are up to 15 places available – bookings in advance only please.

Outcomes
Following this two and a half hour workshop, participants will:
• Understand the nature and causes of stress and our responses to it
• Develop practical stress management and self-care strategies and ways of attending to individual needs
• Explore and experience relaxation techniques
• Develop listening skills and ways of supporting each other
