[MSc CGE Seminar] Dr. Jean-Luc Lugrin from Teeside
Jean-Luc will give an intense session on Online Games programming using the Unreal Game Engine, with Case Studies based on a First-Person Shooter type of game. Topics to be covered to include: (1) a brief introduction to MOG technical requirements, (2) Multiplayer online game middleware and game engine brief survey, (3) Introduction to Unreal Game Engine and Unrealscript, (4) Unreal Replication System Overview, (5) Case-studies: Movement, Fire, Damage, Pause and Chat replication, Data compression, prioritisation, (6) Discussion on development and testing methodologies. The workshop will take place over the entire afternoon and will include two short breaks.
Jean-Luc Lugrin is Principal Lecturer in Computing (Interactive Real-time Systems) at Teeside University where he teaches: Online Games, Game Engine and Level Design. Dr. Lugrin is also an active researcher in Virtual and Augmented Realities. He focuses his attention mainly on: (i) Interactive Storytelling, (ii) Emergent Narratives, (iii) Alternative Reality, (iv) Immersive Gaming, (v) Software Engineering and Architecture, (vi) Knowledge Representation, (vii) Causal and Visual Perception, (viii) Intelligent Camera System, and (ix) Qualitative Physics. He has 10 years experience working with the Unreal Engine (C++, script), and has collaborated on R&D with Epic and Eidos
