Unearthing the Truth: A Psychoanalytic Perspective on the Importance of the Truth in Human Lives
Maya Zvigi Cohen - Goldsmiths Counselling Service - will focus on the importance of the truth in one’s life and the contribution of the truth to one’s life.
She will pay special attention to the powerful consequences that denying, attacking or turning a blind eye to the truth has on the individual.
To demonstrate her argument, clips from the film ‘Once Upon a Time in Anatolia’ will be shown. Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011), is a film by the Turkish film maker Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The film tells the story of a convoy of official men searching for a buried body in the steep hills of Anatolia, Turkey. Maya will also look at how Nuri Bilge Ceylan masterfully conveys internal states of mind through the use of cinematic means.
Prior viewing of the film and knowledge of basic psychoanalytic notions are useful but not essential.
