Event overview
Documentaries, books and learned papers have informed us about the 'impact of tourism' and the baleful characteristics of the 'tourist gaze', especially with regard to ethnic and national minorities. Sacred ceremonies get commoditized and touristic culture smothers what existed before in the search for financial rewards and development. However, Maribeth Erb has drawn our attention to the term 'cultural strategists' in her analysis of the relationship between minorities and tourism.
