Arnie Graf, lifelong Community Organiser, gives the public lecture for PERC's summer conference Beyond the Zombie Economy.
Arnie Graf has 50 years’ experience of community organising campaigns on both sides of the Atlantic. He joined Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), the oldest and largest network of community organisations in the US, building on the work of Saul Alinsky, where he rose to become co-director. He mentored the young Barack Obama in Chicago and more recently advised Ed Miliband’s Labour on organisation and campaign structures.
In this special event, he shares his unique perspective on the shifting political landscapes in the UK and US and his insight into the new politics they are creating, by asking:
How do we build a people powered politics?
How can communities organise themselves to overcome the economic, social and environmental crises they face?
How can we find the common ground that leads to societal change?
