A spiritual health-check
Spirituality is largely about awareness of ourselves and awareness of our relationship to the world around us. Our spiritual health is compromised to the extent that a lack of awareness leads us to have an inaccurate understanding of reality. In order to increase our awareness we need to spend time examining, reflecting and assessing our understanding of ourselves, our relationships and the world around us.
The following questions are designed to give an indication of how much attention you give to these kinds of activities, and as a consequence give a very approximate guide to your spiritual "fitness".
A. Do you ever pause to look at the world around you e.g. look at the sky, the horizon, or the buildings around you?
Hardly ever (1 point) | Occasionally (2 points) | Often (3 points)
B. Do you ever take time to take stock, and reflect on recent events in your daily life?
Only in a crisis (1 point) | From time to time (2 points) | Most days (3 points)
C. Do you remember and take stock of the things you have to be thankful for?
Rarely (1 point) | Sometimes (2 points) | Regularly (3 points)
D. Do you consider what opportunities are open to you to contribute to the greater good e.g. through voluntary work, or simply by remembering to smile at people you deal with in the day?
Very occasionally (1 point) | Now and again (2 points) | Frequently (3 points)
E. Do you ever evaluate what your impact is on the world around you, and on the environment as a whole?
Never (1 point) | Occasionally (2 points) | On an ongoing basis (3 points)
