Dr Jim Anderson
Jim Anderson’s research focuses on isues of policy, pedagogy and professional development in relation to second language teaching in mainstream and complementary school contexts. His work seeks to develop new inclusive models based on recent interpretations of the communicative approach and addressing the needs of both foreign language learners and those who have a background in the language and culture. Areas of particular interest are content and language integrated learning (CLIL) and multiliteracies including the role of the new media. In 2004 Jim was awarded a grant by the Nuffield Foundation to create curriculum guides for Arabic, Mandarin, Panjabi, Tamil and Urdu and these were published by CILT, The National Centre for Languages in 2007. Building on this work he was awarded a second grant by Nuffield in 2008 for a project to investigate ‘Creativity in the Community Languages classroom: pedagogies and professional development’.
