About our counselling service

What can I bring to Counselling?

We welcome all students who have questions, confusions or worries during their time at University. The aim of the service is to help students whose concerns may be impeding their personal and/or academic development.

These concerns may include relationship problems, difficulties with your studies ( eg. procrastination, concentration, perfectionism, fear of speaking in seminars), loneliness, depression, anxiety, sexuality and bereavement.

There is no list of acceptable issues to bring to Counselling. Students come to Counselling for a wide variety of reasons and at different stages of experiencing difficulties. Some students are not even sure why they are coming.

How confidential is it?

The Counselling Service is a free and confidential service. Counsellors do not communicate with tutors or other members of staff without the express consent of the student. The only exception to this would be if the counsellor considered the student posed a serious danger to him/herself or others.

Complaints

If you wish to make a complaint about the Counselling Service please see your counsellor who can take you through the complaint process. You do not need to complete the generic Student Services feedback form provided on this site.
