Student Counselling Service
Accessing the service
In order to access the student counselling service you will need to complete an assessment form. You can do this either by completing the form available on the counselling website click here and sending it via e-mail to counsellingassessmentform@gold.ac.uk or through collecting a paper copy from the service reception and posting it back through the letter box. If you need assistance to complete the form you should contact the service administrator on 020 7919 7472 and this will be arranged.
The assessment form is comprehensive and there are a number of personal questions. The aim of the form is to give you a chance to reflect upon what it is you want from counselling and the clinical team the chance to identify the best form of help and support.
Having submitted your assessment form you will be allocated to an appropriate counsellor when a space becomes available. The counsellor will contact you to arrange an assessment appointment where you can discuss further the issues that are of concern to you. If you cancel the assessment session you will be required to go back on the waiting list until another space becomes available. If you do not attend the session and do not contact us we will presume that you no longer want counselling. We have to employ this policy to minimise missed appointments and ensure that each client has equitable access to the counselling service.
Once you have had an assessment session, if you and the counsellor deem counselling to be suitable, together you will negotiate ongoing counselling. If you feel you might need long term support you can work with your counsellor to access the appropriate services.
The counselling service provides Drop-In appointments each day of the week except Fridays at 3.30. There are two twenty minute slots available for immediate help to students in crisis. Students wishing to attend will need to arrive at 3.15 in order to complete the necessary paper work. As there are only two appointments available each day we suggest you attend promptly at 3.15 to secure a place. If you do not need immediate support we would request students use the online application form in order that these spaces can be held for emergencies.
The counselling service provides workshops throughout the year offering skills for managing issues ranging from academic to more personal self-help. One of the counsellors facilitates a therapy group which runs throughout the course of the academic year. Click here for a list of workshops and dates.
