Research Interests

My research interests are in bodies and embodiment; social, cultural and feminist theory; visual culture; interdisciplinarity and; innovative methodologies.  My PhD, completed in 2005 in CSISP, where I was also Research Administrator, explored the relations between bodies and images from a feminist Deleuzian perspective and argued that bodies and images should be understood as processes of becoming rather than as separate entities. The research was based on different kinds of interviews with a small number of teenage girls about their experiences of their bodies through images. I am currently re-writing this research into a monograph and a number of journal articles based on this research are under review.

To develop these research interests in materiality and social, cultural and feminist theory further, I am involved in a project, with members of CSISP, to consider the social and ethical dimensions of the intersections of bodies and new medical technologies. Following a collaborative project between sociologists and interaction designers I am also interested in developing research on design and interdisciplinarity.
