PhD Working Title: Lost in translation: a comparative study of HIV treatment in Poland and the UK.
The project will be supervised by Dr Marsha Rosengarten with regular input from Dr Mike Youle (Director of HIV Research Royal Free Centre for HIV Medicine and The Training and Resource Initiative) and by the Polish Social AIDS Committee.
The study involves a comparative analysis of HIV practices of care in clinics in Poland and the UK and aims at revealing how distinctive characteristics of these locations offer alternative perspectives on antiretroviral therapy. To accomplish its task, the project engages with distinctive theoretical insights into health care provided by Science and Technology Studies.
Recently, the project won Phil Strong Memorial Prize, the award which the British Sociological Association has established to support post-graduate research contributing to the advancement of medical sociology.
