Postgraduate Research
We welcome applications from those with a good first degree in Sociology or a related area who would like to join the centre as an M.Phil or PhD student. We are particularly keen to attract those who would like to undertake research into circulations of people and objects, non-cities, urban interventions, communities, difference and social inequalities and the relationship between art and urban intervention.
Because we have a strong specialisation in visual methods of social research and social analysis we are also keen to attract applicants to our practice-based M.Phil/PhD in Visual Sociology. This is unique. It admits those with a visual arts background who would like to develop their skills in social research and analysis by creating a film, a body of photographs or a sound-piece linked with a (shorter) written dissertation on a subject of topical social significance. For more information….link with sociology webpage on this.
You would be joining a thriving interdisciplinary group of researchers, actively involved in a wide range of urban research projects from Deptford to Jakarta. Additionally you would have the benefit of also being part of the Department of Sociology which has over 160 students registered for M.Phils and PhDs: one of the largest PhD programmes in the country.
