Facilities

The George Wood Theatre provides a well-appointed theatre space seating 150 for teaching and performance. The Department also has three performance studios; scenic, media and costume workshops; and design studio facilities. Academic staff are assisted by a team of four experienced technicians.

The Department houses the office of the British Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), a UNESCO-funded organisation which is the largest theatre network in the world. The secretariat of the consortium for the Co-ordination of the European Performance and Theatre Studies (CONCEPTS) is also based in the Department.

The College's Library houses the LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre) Video Collection and a good collection of material on all aspects of performance. It is possible to arrange access to the specialist collections of the British Library, the Theatre Museum, and the Mander and Mitchenson archive. Within easy reach are the South Bank Arts complex, the reconstructed Globe Theatre, the commercial theatre of the West End, Greenwich Theatre, and the more 'alternative' Deptford Albany Theatre (currently linked with the National Theatre's 'Art of Regeneration' scheme), as well as many small local fringe theatre venues.
