English Language Programmes

We offer high quality programmes covering a range of different language abilities and requirements: postgraduate and undergraduate, intensive one-month programmes and supplementary classes.

Our programmes teach English for Academic Purposes - the language, background knowledge and specialist terms you need to study your subject in the UK. English for Academic Purposes Programmes also introduce you to the teaching, study and assessment methods used in UK universities. A special feature of our Pre-sessional, International Foundation Certificate and Pre Masters Diploma programmes is that you can study courses tailored to the arts and social sciences - an area in which Goldsmiths is internationally renowned.

Choosing a programme

We have a wide range of programmes and courses but which one is right for you?

  • Diploma in the Humanities and Social Sciences
    This is a Pre-Masters programme and is for you if you already have a degree from your own country. You will develop your academic English language skills, explore the major ideas in the humanities, and find out about teaching methods and standards on postgraduate programmes in the UK. You will need a minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS, 540 in TOEFL or equivalent.

  • International Foundation Certificate in the Humanities and Social Sciences
    This programme helps you improve your English, discover the key ideas in the humanities, and gain study skills before starting an undergraduate programme. You will need a minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS, 520 in TOEFL or equivalent.
  • Pre-sessional Programme
    The Pre-sessional Programme is for you if you intend to study full-time at a UK university:
    Undergraduate level
    Postgraduate level

  • Even if you have the recommended entry requirements for your programme of study you are advised to take a pre-sessional programme to familiarise yourself with British University LIFE! The programme runs from April to September covering study skills, English Language and an introduction to the humanities. You will need a score of 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 or 6.5 in IELTS or equivalent depending on when you begin the programme.

Visiting and exchange students

Our exciting Study Abroad programme gives you the chance to study at Goldsmiths for a semester as part of your degree at your home university. Please contact the International Office for enquiries regarding this programme.
