'I took the SKE as I had been working in the private sector for a number of years before studying for the PGCE. The twilight sessions meant I could continue working whilst preparing for the PGCE. During the SKE, as well as receiving formal instruction, we taught each other different topics which also served as good preparation for the PGCE. Revising mathematics from a teaching perspective, breaking down concepts and identifying misconceptions was particularly useful on the course and once I got into my teaching practice it helped me to plan my lessons effectively. Taking the course helped me hit the ground running when starting the PGCE, there is so much to learn on the course that feeling secure in your subject knowledge really helps. Sometimes its the 'simplest' concepts that are the hardest to teach!'

'I really enjoyed the twilight SKE course because it was not only a good way to refresh and revise my maths knowledge but we also looked at topics from a different perspective when thinking about the teaching points and possible misconceptions pupils may have. I feel that the course helped prepare me for the PGCE and it made a big difference to my confidence knowing that I was secure in my subject knowledge as this allowed me to focus on learning about the other aspects of teaching. The course was fairly intense as we covered topics across the KS3,4 and 5 curricula in a short time but it was a very beneficial introduction into the actual PGCE course.'
