MPhil/PhD Research Bursaries 2011 entry

The Department of Educational Studies in conjunction with its Research Centres has an established MPhil/PhD programme that provides opportunities for study in a wide range of topics relating to the field of education. Part-time as well as full-time bursaries are available again this year for prospective students with excellent proposals for MPhil/PhD study. Applications are invited, particularly in the following areas:

Action research in education ● Art in education ● Bilingualism in education ● Comparative education ● Comprehensive education ● Creativity ● Curriculum policy and practice ● Development of literacy ● Drama in education ● Early childhood education and cultural diversity ● Early literacy and bilingualism ● English in Education ● Equity and social justice ● Family learning in multilingual contexts ● Gender studies ● Girl studies ● ICT and education ● Identities, cultures and the curriculum ● Mathematics education ● Out-of-school learning ● Policy and its contestation ● Popular culture and education ● Race and education ● Science in education ● Sexuality and education ● Social class and education ● Spatial aspects of education ● Teaching of reading ● Visual cultures and education.

Bursaries for 75 per cent of the part- or full-time UK/EU enrolment fee (regardless of whether you are a UK/EU or overseas applicant) are payable for up to a maximum of 3 years of study (subject to satisfactory progress).

Applicants should normally have a good undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in Education or a closely related area of the Social Sciences. Download an application pack  with guidelines for writing a proposal. Completed applications with outline proposals must be received by 5th May 2011.
