Principles of Practice
The Goldsmiths Primary Partnership is based upon a set of principles established at its inception by all those involved.- Equal Opportunities
- Active and participative models of teaching and learning
- Developing reflective practitioners
- Promoting a broad based and relevant curriculum for all children
Aim of Primary Partnership
Our aim is to produce a model of initial teacher education which supports the development of reflective, open and competent practitioners.
A reflective practitioner:
- Is able to reflect on and analyse his/her own work and through this process evaluate and develop his/her practice
- Welcomes advice, support and constructive criticism from colleagues and others and acts appropriately upon it.
- Is willing to share his/her experiences and offers support to colleagues and others he/she come into contact with in the course of his/her work.
Criteria for Establishing Partnership
Commitment of school:- To the education and support of student teachers and newly qualified teachers as part of schools overall plan for professional development
- To the support of school based tutors through release for working with student teachers and for other forms of professional development
- By having someone in Senior Management to facilitate and co-ordinate aspects of ITE which are sited in school (where possible)
- To developing working relationships with college and college tutors
- To good practice and curriculum development
- To providing a safe learning environment
- To the principles of practice
Our policy is to work with schools that:
- Provide models of primary practice that reflect our principles of practice
- Reflect student teachers' possible teaching intention.
- Provide opportunities to work with children from different cultural and social class background
Policy and Procedure for the Selection of Schools
Our procedures for school selection include:
- Discussion between school and College with regard to the needs of student teachers and the needs of the school
- Discussion of relevant school, college and partnership documentation including OFSTED reports where applicable
- Signed agreements by school and college personnel
Training
Underpinning all out work is the central principle that we are striving towards a partnership of equality between schools and Goldsmiths. Our model of partnership therefore requires that all college and school based tutors complete a series of initial training sessions which focus on counselling, the skills associated with observation, feedback and report writing, familiarisation with the Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status and exploration of the wider tutor's role. After the initial course all tutors (school and college based) are expected to attend one half-day 'further training session' at Goldsmiths every year.
