Sheila is a lecturer in Education and thew teaching of Foreign Languages on the primary and secondary education programmes and the masters programme.

Her previous experience includes two years teaching English as a Foreign Language in Sweden and nineteen years teaching French and Spanish up to A' Level in inner city comprehensive schools in London, including assistant Head of Year and ten years as Head of Languages, and mentoring PGCE students.

Sheila has many years' experience as a school-based mentor and university tutor for PGCE students. She is committed to promoting communicative language teaching in the context of inner city secondary schools. She has been a member of the PGCE Academic Review Board for Metropolitan University and has a particular interest in leading Professional Development and the role of the school-based subject mentor in the training of PGCE students.

Research interests

Sheila has carried out research into the use of e-conferencing to facilitate the continuing professional development of mentors and gender stereotypes in year 9 subject options. She is currently researching Initial Teacher Training and Primary Modern Foreign Languages.
