Vicky is a lecturer in Secondary English with media and drama on the PGCE Programme at Goldsmiths.She also works on the Masters in Education: Culture, Language and Identity and the MPhil/PhD programme in the Educational Studies Department. She is a committee member of the Centre for Language, Culture and Learning at Goldsmiths.

Vicky is a graduate in English and Education from the University of York and a qualified teacher with professional recognition as a Chartered London Teacher. She worked in the classroom for 24 years, initially as an English and Drama teacher in a Bradford secondary school responsible for Drama and for the development of Media Studies Courses. She then worked as an English Language Teacher and Assistant Director of Studies in Lisbon as well as teaching Portuguese teachers at the Innovative Institute of Education. Vicky moved to work in an inner-city London school for 5 years as 2nd in Charge of the English and Media faculty and Training School Mentor in charge of Teachers’ Research and school leader for TLA initiatives. She took up her present appointment as course leader for PGCE Secondary English with media and drama in April 2007.

Vicky's expertise is in language development and her doctorate research was in the area of language and literacy and applied linguistics.

Research interests

Vicky's expertise is in language development and her doctorate research was in the area of language and literacy and applied linguistics. Vicky’s research interests lie in biliteracy and biculturalism; and poetry. A key area of her research is an analysis of cultural perspectives in relation to literacy and the conflicts which might arise from contrasting cultural and social practices. Her research interests also include the literacy development of bi- and multi- lingual pupils in mainstream classes.
