Student Experiences
" ...the diversity and experience represented by the students on the degree really contributes to the exploration of the issues raised in the different course units"
Lois Woodier, BA Education, Culture & Society [graduates 2008]
"I came from art school to this course. I am passionate about eventually working with children but wanted the opportunity to dig deeper and wider into the 'what', the 'how', and the 'why' questions of education. This course certainly offers this and I have found that the success of this degree for me lies in the balance it creates between the 'content' we are presented with and the space given for us to interact and reflect upon this.
Also the diversity and experience represented by the students on the degree really contributes to the exploration of the issues raised in the different course units. I remain fascinated - and I'm still in the first year!"
Alex Georgiou- BA Education, Culture and Society (2007)
"The Education, Culture and Society degree gets your mind questioning various avenues within society that help to create it; such as the development and purpose for education. One of the most prevalent entities that I have taken away with me is the extent of which 'knowledge is power', and the values of education. The course units are far- reaching and deep, covering gender, race, culture, language, the media, politics and so on, combining to construct ideas and perceptions of identity. Other areas that I studied were Globalisaion and Education alongside an introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language, which have no doubt increased my knowledge of the relationship between poorer and richer countries and the impact this has on educational developments, at the same time as enhancing my desires to travel. A vital unit for me has been Visual Arts, which has enabled me to develop skills in clay making, painting, textiles and so on, at the same time as developing my creativity and ideas with support and guidance. The great aspect of this course is the interrelationships it explores within society; it has secured in me a thirst for more knowledge."
