  • Mel Gough - Attenciòn 341 67 (2005)
    MP3 Audio | File size 11.7Mb | 128kbps | Duration 12' 44"

Most of the source material for this soundscape is taken from various shortwave radio transmissions or VHF band frequencies, and a few sine tones. In a sense, it’s a similar to some of the original shortwave number transmissions in that it’s interspersed with various found melodic objects, and is essentially a cryptic message aiming to communicate something to the listener. Whether it is disregarded as an interruption to the programme (the anarchist in me revels in this interpretation…), or it is taken as a more serious work of sonic art within which there are lots of different layers to trace, it was created to exist just outside of regular frequency analogous with the extended frequency you need to pick up shortwave on a radio. The final drone sequence fades out using a high-frequency filter although the piece continues ad infinitum at imperceptibly high frequencies…

  • Sarah Owen - From Play (2004)
    MP3 Audio | File size 8.3Mb | 128kbps | Duration 9' 00"

There is no explanation for From Play; it has no important architecture, I had no 'Idea'. I played with the sounds to make the piece, so really, there is nothing to try to understand.

  • Claire Singer - Être Fluide (2005)
    MP3 Audio | File size 6.7Mb | 128kbps | Duration 7' 12"

Être Fluide is a journey through many different textural sounds. The piece is based around how these textures interact and evolve around one another almost becoming one single sound. The title describes the movement of the piece as opposed to what it's about as I prefer not to create a picture in the listeners mind. It is far more interesting to let you come to your own interpretation rather than make you think of one set idea.
