Equal Opportunities - statement for students

Goldsmiths is committed to Equal Opportunities and seeks to maintain an environment which encourages all its members to contribute fully and on an equal basis to both the work and the life of the university.

No applicant or student of Goldsmiths should receive less favourable treatment on grounds of sex, marital status, religion or belief, race, colour, nationality, class, ethnic or national origin, parental status, age, sexual orientation or disability, or be disadvantaged by requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable; any behaviour involving actions or words reflecting prejudice on such grounds and liable to cause offence is subject to disciplinary action.

Goldsmiths welcomes all applications for admission from applicants who may have a disability, specific learning difficulty or a long-term physical or mental health-related issue. All applications are considered purely on the basis of their academic qualifications and/ or suitability for the degree. Sub-boards and Joint Sub-boards of Examiners ensure that students, once registered on a programme, are fairly treated in respect of their academic
progress.

Goldsmiths has a Disability Co-ordinator and team of advisers who act as a point of contact for applicants, staff and current students on matters relating to students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties or a long-term physical or mental health related issue. The Disability Team can advise on what adjustments are reasonable in order to provide equality of access to students studying with disabilities, specific learning difficulties or a long-term physical or mental health-related issue.

Goldsmiths will take into account the individual study needs of students and will undertake any reasonable adjustment necessary to allow full access to the curriculum. Goldsmiths aims to keep under constant review the need to provide adequate day-care facilities for the pre-school children of students on degrees.

If you feel you have been the subject of discrimination or harassment by Goldsmiths, or by one of its members of staff or by one of its students, you should report the matter to the Academic Registrar, who will take appropriate action under Goldsmiths’ Equal Opportunities Codes of Practice.
