Displacement Seminar Series
GLEU sees itself as a hub for debates in and around learning and teaching in (higher) education. In line with this, GLEU is launching, in 2010, the ‘Displacement Seminars’ series. These are events that occur, up to three times year, by bringing cutting-edge thinking about concepts that are core to the different disciplines represented at Goldsmiths to act as lenses through which to reflect around learning and teaching. Concepts that have been suggested include: sustainability, the ephemeral, identity, memory, inclusion and many more.
The intention behind these workshops is to link closely what is at the heart of the research in each disciplinary area to learning and teaching practices and thinking around the College.
Each event may last up to 1.30 hours. On each occasion, two or more academics, from a given department, presents a core concept, as it is understood and theorised within their own discipline, for about half an hour. This is followed by a debate about how that very concept can illuminate thinking about learning, teaching and higher education in general.
Each event will be summarised in a set of notes on the GLEU website as reference for future debates.
The seminars are open to everybody in the College, in the first instance. However, it is important that you book a place for yourself by writing an email to Adam Cresswell (a.cresswell@gold.ac.uk).
Please check the GLEU website and the College calendar for upcoming events. GLEU will also disseminate information about each seminar throughout the different departments.
