Gold Award

With personal development remaining a priority for the government agencies that support Higher Education and with employers increasibly looking for candidates who can demonstrate well developed personal attributes and transferable skills, GLEU has led in the development of The Gold Award.

The Gold Award is a new scheme, designed for Goldsmiths undergraduates, to help students to make the best of the opportunities available, and to recognise and reward participation in activities above-and-beyond their academic studies.

Activities that can been rewarded through the scheme include anything from volunteer work to putting on an exhibition, from working in the Students’ Union to running a team, from mentoring your peers to running a society. In short, almost anything that a student participates in at Goldsmiths that demonstrates skills development and wider learning, can contribute towards the award. It is required that students record and evidence this development using the planning tools that we have developmed.

Why Students may want to complete the Gold Award:

  • More and more people are taking degrees than ever before. The Gold Award is something extra to put on a CV;
  • It requires students to record their achievements, making the process of demonstrating skills development easier at the point of writing application forms or attending interviews
  • The Gold Award Team will be able to provide successful students with an additional reference.

How it works

Students need to attain five ‘Gold Award Points’ in order to receive the award. One of these points has to be by completing the exercises and personal record found on the VLE.. The other four points must be obtained though extra curricular activities.

Students can take a minimum of one year and up to three years to complete the award; the timescale during which is undertaken must be reflected in the Personal Record.
This year we are piloting the scheme and as such numbers are limited. We will be evaluating its success over the summer. For further information see the Gold Award pages found on the VLE
