Recycling
I'm pleased to be able to report an update on our waste strategy objective.
We've done it. - We send 0% (zero) of our waste to landfill!
Please following this link Waste Strategy Update 2011 to see the which contains an update on the waste strategy.
As a recap, our Waste Management Strategy states that we are aiming to reduce our waste to landfill by 50% by 2012.
Part of this will involve increasing our recycling across the campus.
All our halls of residence already recycle the bulk of its waste, and the pilot to make Warmington Tower completely recycling seems to be working well.
In addition, the New Academic Building is a recycling only building - with no desk bins, just central bin areas with 1 bin for recycling and 1 bin for general waste.
In general, the following items can be recycled in these schemes:
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Glass
- Plastic bottles
- Drinks / food cans
Details of what can be placed in the recycling bins can be found by clicking here
For other areas of the institution that don’t yet have fully recycling facility – we are getting to you, please be patient.
In the meantime, below are some links to the existing campus wide recycling schemes.
- PAPER
- TONER
- COMPUTERS
- WOOD
- BATTERIES – There are currently three battery recycling points – entrance to the library, reception area of Loring Hall Management Centre and the Students’ Union shop.
- Furniture Re-use Scheme
- A-Z of Recycling - A handy list of what to do with various items you have finished with
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Electrical items that are still in good working condition can be recycled in a number of ways.
Use the online noticeboard to post details and a photo of the item so other staff and students may give it a new home.
Charities in the area, such as Lee Oasis can often come and collect items.
Alternatively, for personal items, or Goldsmiths items that would otherwise end up in a skip, websites such as Freecycle offer a ‘swapshop’ type of service.
