All Non-Confidential Paper Types - Green Sacks
Cleaning staff provide all offices, labs and workshops with green sacks for collecting the waste paper generated in your office that cannot be reused. Use them for all paper types (except confidential waste).
If you need more sacks, please contact the cleaners.
If you need a cardboard bin that holds the green sack, please contact Design & Print Services.
Porters take the filled sacks to central points on campus. At present, Design & Print Services arrange for them to be regularly removed by a contractor. For extra supplies of green sacks or to arrange for them to be supplied to other locations within the department, contact the Cleaning Services Supervisor on ext 7103
Confidential Wastepaper for Secure Shredding - Red Sacks
Special collection sacks (red) with tamper-proof seals (green tags) are available from Design & Print Services (D&PS) for confidential wastepaper that has to be securely shredded. Do not use them for non confidential waste. Order supplies of the red sacks for confidential shredding by emailing Design & Print Services. When the red sacks are full, send them with the special security tags provided. Please advise D&PS of the quantity to be collected and the location. Avoid overfilling and remove box and lever arch/binders. If the sacks tear the security of the contents cannot be guaranteed.
D&PS arranges the subsequent bulk collections by the approved contractor. D&PS has to keep track of the sacks and their whereabouts at all times. Please do not arrange for their collection yourself, contact D&PS to do so. Departments are charged £5 for each sack of secure shredding done by the contractor. The bags and seals are of free of charge. The contractor provides certificates of safe and secure destruction which are in D&PS and can be viewed on request.
If you find that you collect confidential waste in low volumes only, but steadily throughout the year, you may wish to consider purchasing a special collection bin instead of using the sacks. Please contact Sarah Gibbon in Repro for more details (s.gibbon).
In using the confidential shredding service you will be helping minimise your department's harmful impact on the environment and supporting the College's effort to meet its statutory obligations with regard to waste disposal.
