There is no charge to departments for attendance on this training. Places must be booked in advance and will be on first come first served basis.

About the training – who should attend?
Departmental Health and Safety Co-ordinators Training (CIEH) (1 day)
Tuesday 3 November 2009
- whether you are newly appointed or have been in the role for a while, this one day course will give you the basics of health and safety, including accident prevention, risk assessment, manual handling, hazardous substances, and workplace safety. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and successful completion of the multiple-choice examination leads to a CIEH level 2 certificate in Health and Safety in the Workplace.

- for all current certificated first aiders and appointed persons, to practice and reinforce your first aid skills and knowledge annually.
(Note: if your First Aid at Work or Appointed Person/ Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is due to expire, you need to re-qualify by completing a 2 day Requalification or 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work course).
Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day)

- this one day course includes basic life support, control of bleeding, choking and unconsciousness, treatment of burns and scalds, various medical conditions. On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive a certificate of attendance valid for three years. This course is suitable for staff covering low risk areas such as offices and libraries.

Fire wardens training (2 hours)

- for nominated department fire wardens who have not attended training within the last six months. Learn about your role, evacuation procedures, assisting people with disabilities, and fire prevention. You can also practice using fire extinguishers (optional).

- for all staff who organise events on campus, including conferences, music events, exhibitions, performances and open days. Learn how to plan safe and enjoyable events, prevent problems but be ready for emergencies that may happen.
Accident reporting and investigation (2 hours)
Wednesday 16 December 2009
- for all staff, including first aiders and appointed persons. Learn how to report injuries, work-related ill health and near-misses; how to record first aid treatment given to casualties; how to investigate the causes of accidents and stop them happening again.
