HT52025A Magic and Myth in Medieval and Early Modern Europe
Research interests
My work centres mainly on metamorphosis and lycanthropy, in early modern witchcraft discourse and criminal prosecutions in francophone regions, as well as in folk traditions and popular narratives from the Middle Ages to the modern period. I am currently finishing one article on Red Riding Hood in relation to popular narrative about encounters with wolves, and another on metaphors of the Evil Eye in early modern witches’ confessions. With Willem de Blécourt, I am writing a book on the cultural history of werewolves in western Europe, which will examine trial records in relation to demonological theories and folk legends.
