Human Resources is pleased to announce that from 6 April 2009 we have implemented a new level of Occupational Health provision for the College including the appointment of a fully trained occupational health nurse, Bruce Ormiston. The Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) is the new provider of Occupational Health Services to the College.
Bruce is a registered nurse with membership of the Nursing & Midwifery Council and Royal College of Nursing. He is currently working as a senior occupational health nurse adviser with IOM. He is supported by Dr James Preston, who graduated in medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff. He later trained in general practice in Edinburgh. Subsequently he completed a formal 4-year training post with BUPA to become an accredited specialist in occupational medicine. He now works full time at IOM as the senior occupational physician. Bruce will be on-site at least once per week (usually on Monday, and on Tuesday following a Bank Holiday).
Please find below the link to the presentation given by Dr James Preston at the HR Forum on 14 December 2009.
The Process
The service will be by appointment arranged by Human Resources. Your first point of contact will be your HR Business Partner.
HR Business Partners will continue to work closely with both line managers and staff on how to access the service. The service is limited to providing independent medical advice on issues related to work and health. It is not a walk-in or first aid service or treatment centre service. For urgent medical assistance, staff are encouraged to utilise the local NHS Walk In Centre in New Cross. For HR Business Partners’ details Contact us.
Location
The occupational health nurse’s room is situated on the ground floor of St James Hall (Block 1) on the main campus.
