Review of Human Resources
June 2008
We finished the HR review in September 2007. A huge amount of thanks goes to the whole HR team, the consultants who helped us, and most of all to the many people who gave us their views, comments and opinions to help us transform. We also need to thank other universities and Colleges who gave us their time and support and a lot of information to benchmark ourselves against.
The final report, minus the comparative data which was provided in confidence, is on the website. You’ll see there was a lot to consider.
We put a proposition to Senior Management Team in late October 2007. Of course SMT were very challenging, and wanted further information. By December we got agreement from SMT for funding to implement changes.
Some things have already moved forward, but the main changes have had to be delayed until now. As well as the whole team working fantastically hard to deliver the Framework Agreement this year, some of you will know that I have been ill for much of the early part of the year.
Now we’re ready to roll. I gave presentations to Heads of Academic Departments a few weeks ago, and to the HR Committee of Council before that. A few issues have moved on since then, so our final plans have been changed a little.
We’re even moving to new offices in the former St James’ Hall of residence in early July, out of the backfield temporary buildings.
Follow the links below to see the changes we’re working to, the first phase of new structure of HR we hope to achieve by September, and some of the projects underway. We’re now advertising for the new staff and if you want to check out the vacancies listing this week, you’ll see just what we’re doing.
Thank you all so much for the support and enthusiasm for change people have shown.
Yours
Chris Pearson
