Goldsmiths academic acknowledged for contribution to Arts and Culture in Vietnam
Gerald Lidstone BA MA ATC Dr.h.c FRGS, Director of Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London, has been given the title of Honorary Professor by Hanoi University of Culture, and awarded the Medal 'for the development of Culture, Sport and Tourism in Vietnam' by the Vietnamese government.
The presentation ceremony took place on Friday 13 March, where Gerald was rewarded for his contribution to the development of Arts and Culture in Vietnam over the last ten years.
The ceremony in Hanoi welcomed Mr Justine Spence, representative of British Council, Mr Michael DiGregorio from Ford Foundation, Mr Nguyen Van Tinh, Head of Foreign Relations Department of Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Dinh Quang, Director of Center for Research, Support and Development of Culture (A&C), Mr Luong Hong Quang, Deputy Director of Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS), Mr Nguyen Van Cuong, Chancellor of Hanoi University of Culture, and many lecturers, researchers and managers.
Speaking at the ceremony, representatives from the Ministry, British Council, Ford Foundation and Hanoi University of Culture congratulated Professor Lidstone and expressed appreciation for his contribution to the changes and innovation in the development of Cultural Management throughout the country and especially at the university.
Honorary guests expressed the hope that the good relationship between Gerald and Vietnam continued to develop in the future.
He is an international teacher, researcher and consultant in the field of Arts and Culture, especially in Cultural and Creative Management and Cultural Policy. He has developed cultural projects in the United Kingdom as well as in Europe, America, and Asia.
Since 1997, he has made an important contribution to the training of Arts and Cultural Management in Vietnam helping Vietnam to meet the demand of a market economy and international integration. He has trained senior managers for Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism in Vietnam equipping them with contemporary knowledge and skills to work effectively in the new economic context.
He is also the main international lecturer and consultant for the design and development of a curricular for Arts and Cultural Management at several levels in Vietnam, and has contributed to designing the first modern Cultural Management curriculum for Vietnam, with the training of the teaching team of Hanoi University of Culture in order to deliver the curriculum.
Gerald is the key partner participating and contributing to the success of major projects "Upgrading the management capacity for cultural managers in Vietnam in the context of the transition into a market economy" (2000-2004) and "Compiling textbooks for Cultural Management (BA level and short training courses) and Developing Cultural Management training Curriculum (MA level)" (2005-2009) funded by Ford Foundation in Vietnam.
