Chin Ju Wei
Chin Ju Wei has studied and worked in design for more than a decade in Taiwan. Her previous work position was project manager in an interior design company. She designed a variety of different types of spaces such as offices, shops, and private houses; this being due to dealing with the many sorts of clients. As a project manager, she was responsible for developing concepts, researching material and colour, communicating with clients, and leading a team in which we would solve problems collectively. Her career has been incredibly rewarding and proved very enjoyable. It has let her understand the processes of interior design projects and how to formulate them with attention to detail. However, after having worked in this industry for five years, she started to ask herself the question: why do most designers working for a company gradually lost their enthusiasm in their work? She discovered that it is caused by a lack of management and business thinking; designers over focus on their products. This leads them to a difficult situation promoting their work. Hence, she decided to study in a school again to look for the solution of her question.
Studying in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London, she came to realise that the solution can be discussed from different angles such as culture, human behaviour, or business thinking. In addition, her classmates are from different backgrounds and have majors which inspire her; this provides her with more opportunities to learn new ways of thinking. These encourage her to try and experiment any possibility of her design business.
She is now planning to cooperate with a friend to create their own brand which will combine interior and fashion design. She believes it will be a fantastic and challenging start to her future career.
