Fatma Çolakoğlu

Born in 1980, İstanbul, Tukey, Fatma Çolakoğlu completed her undergraduate studies in Film History and Film Directing at Emerson College in Boston, USA. Following her graduation she moved to London and pursued her Theatre Directing graduate degree at Goldsmiths College. As her final thesis she staged “Caligula” by David Grieg at the Battersea Arts Center. After studying and working for several years abroad, she returned to Istanbul.
In 2005 November, she initiated the first Museum Cinema at İstanbul Museum of Modern Art – and worked for two and a half years of programming a wide range of film and video works; mostly works presented for the first time in Turkey. For the past three years, she’s been working at the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum as Head of Film, Video and Communication programming. In the meantime she also completed a four-month professional internship at the New Media Department of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France where she worked closely with the Department Head, Chief Curator Christine Van Assche.
At Pera Museum, in 2008 October, she initiated a new film and video programming called Pera Film – with the aim of informing and entertaining the museum audience by underlining the importance and diversity of film and video with monthly programs featuring classic and experimental cinema, animation, documentaries, short films and video art screenings. This particular film and video programming in Istanbul strives to foster a growing awareness for international and national film and video works among both local and international visitors.
For her work she always seeks new and exciting collaborations especially with well-established institutions like the Pompidou Center Film Programming, IndieLisboa Film Festival, Cervantes Institute, French Cultural Center and many more but also she likes to work with independent, freelance curators and programmers as well. Currently she is working on her up-coming yearly new programming.
