Katja Janus

Katja grew up in Heidelberg, Germany. After finishing school there, she moved to the UK and did her first degree in Languages & European Union Studies at the University of Edinburgh with the thought of working in interpretation and translation. During her studies in Edinburgh, she became interested in arts administration whilst working at (and watching one too many shows during) the Edinburgh Festival in her summer breaks.

This led her to change track and apply for an MA in Arts Administration & Cultural Policy at Goldsmiths College, which she finished in 2003. After a series of project and festival work in Edinburgh and Berlin, she got a job at Theatre Royal Stratford East as Assistant to the Artistic Director, where she stayed for almost four years. Looking for a new challenge, she moved to Berlin to work as Deputy Sales & Promotion Manager at the European Film Market, a major international trade fair for film production and sales companies that is part of the Berlin International Film Festival.

Missing London and the world of theatre, she returned to the UK in 2010 to work as Administrator for the Executive Team at the Rose Theatre, Kingston - incidentally as maternity cover for a fellow Goldsmiths graduate!

With this contract now coming to an end, Katja is looking for a new job and a new challenge, and is considering moving into alternative fields such as charities as well as possibly pursuing further studies to extend her management skills.
