Mervat has been working in theatre management for over eight years. After completing her first degree, she started her career by working for Theatre Day Productions as Gaza branch manager for over 5 years. This involved making theatre and drama for children and young people in the war zone Gaza- Palestine, helping young people to channel trauma and fear through the arts. Being granted a full scholarship as one of few Chevening Scholars from Gaza, Mervat moved to the UK to pursue her education and career. She graduated with an MA degree in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy from Goldsmiths, which enabled her to combine her previous experience in management and her passion for arts policy making.

 

In London, after finishing her second degree, Mervat has been working as a cultural consultant, advisor and a researcher on different theatre productions, many of them dealing with the conflict situations in Middle East, as well as Arab identity and Islamic culture.

 

Her Palestinian identity, passion for the arts and her education has shaped her professional life and expertise. Currently she is working as an Office Manager and Assistant to the Executive Director of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain one of the world’s leading youth arts organization.
