Alex Wilkie

Alex is a Lecturer and Research Fellow in the Interaction Research Studio. He completed a sociological Ph.D. thesis in 2010 written as an ethnographic study of user-centered design practice and the figuring of multiple users therein. The thesis explores how users are figuratively and materially assembled through professional design practices and is a contribution to user studies in Science and Technology Studies (STS) as well as ethnographic studies of design. Presently, Alex’s research interests, played out through writing, studio activities and teaching, lie at the intersections of STS, most notably developments in Actor-Network Theory, and design practice where he is interested in inventive research methods, issue-related design as well as public engagement and energy practices related to the environment. Alex also holds a Masters Degree in Computer Related Design from the Royal College of Art.
