"We attended the festival with a student group of fifteen people from Germany. We loved the creative atmosphere that surrounded all the festival events, debated for hours about the films shown on both evenings, gained some valuable insights in both workshops, and, last but not least, had a great time at Goldsmiths College!"

the event was free to attend.

The two evening events of ISEFF offered a forum to consider contemporary issues in ethnographic and documentary film production.

While our priority for each night was to expose ethnographic film by students to new audiences, we also held two seminar-discussions in day-time to introduce this practice – which were both very intense and well attended.

We present to you here the panel of guest-speakers that allowed us for each evening to engage more specifically in questions of use, ethics, and the negotiation of encounter.

This festival is intended to a wider audience and our program to allow a multi-disciplinary perspective. Our themed evenings do not intend to dissect these films into the dichotomies of business and art but intend to inject vitality into the debate of the role of ethnographic film in societies today.

Essentially we look to use this medium to encourage and inspire an informed next generation of young anthropologists and filmmakers through discussion of the 'hows' and 'whys' of ethnographic film.
